The Mountains
On the other side of the gorge, less than two hours from Orenco Station, is an outdoor lover's dream. Mt. Hood National Forest is a playground for skiing, snow boarding, biking, hiking and camping. You can fish in one of its countless streams or enjoy a hot chocolate at Timberline Lodge high atop Mt. Hood. The possibilities are as limitless as the view. A favorite local destination, the mountain can be seen from almost anywhere in the Portland area.
A bit farther away, but well worth the trip, is the famous Mt. St. Helens, which erupted on May 18, 1980. Today, the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument is part adventurers paradise and part laboratory, where scientists are constantly watching the active volcanos movement. Hiking and exploring here is a one-of-a-kind adventure.
